The purpose of the Fair Queen Competition Program is to encourage the promotion of agricultural fairs and to create better relations between youth and adults in both rural and urban settings.
Premium: Queen - $200.00 Alternate - $100.00
Fair Queen Competition Rules
Each Potter County Fair Queen contestant must:
1. Be a female who is a U.S. citizen, a resident of Pennsylvania and live in Potter County or that part of McKean County included in the Oswayo Valley School district.
2. Be at least 16, but no older than 20 years of age as of June 1 of the year entering the local contest.
3. Be certified as the winner by the local fair where she was crowned.
4. Has not been a former local Fair Queen winner or a former State Fair Queen contestant.
5. Not hold any other title for any other commodity group or pageant during her reign.
6. Have her parent(s)’ or guardian(s)’ consent to enter the competition.
7. Be single, have never been married, have not been pregnant or become pregnant neither during her reign nor given birth to a child.
8. Act in accordance with the Fair Queen “Behavior Policy” included in the Fair Queen Handbook.
9. Meet all time commitments, Queen Obligations and Dress Code as set forth by the Fair Queen Program. Must attend the Potter County Fair daily.
10. Must represent Potter County Fair at the State Competition to be held in Hershey, PA in January 2024. Expenses will be paid by the Potter County Fair Association for the contestant and her parents.
11. The contestant will be judged on
A. Essay (Content, grammar, and spelling)
B. Personal Interview (Conversational ability, knowledge of fair, agriculture, poise)
C. Speech
D. Introduction at the fair.
E. Interaction with the public at the fair
12. A written essay is required to be submitted with the application. The title is “What My Fair Means to My Community” and must be 300 words or less.
13. Must present a 3 to 5 minute speech on “Why You Should Come to My Fair”. Speeches will be given on Tuesday night at the fair before the baked goods auction.
